Fall Newsletter - October 2006
Presidents Message
As our busy lives take us deeper into the Fall Season, its hard to believe the 2006/2007 season is just around the corner. Brian and Tim have had our hardy group of volunteers out preparing the trails. The storms this past summer and fall have brought down numerous branches and even uprooted whole trees across the trails. All the routine maintenance and some needed repairs are also being done on the groomers so we are prepared when Mother Nature decides to bless us with snow!
Id like to take a few seconds to extend personal Thanks to Mr. Charlie Harper for having served so many years as President of the Port Perry Snowmobile Club. Charlie is staying with the club executive in a past presidents role as I come up to speed. Im sure Ill be counting on Charlie a lot. Some of you may know that I have served with the club since 2000 as Trail Patrol Coordinator. That role has been turned over to two new members of the executive who are very enthusiastic and will be fine ambassadors for the club out on the trails.
Rick and our club sponsors are once again planning some fun events for our community of snowmobilers. Watch our website www.portperrysnowmobileclub.com for coming events this season. For those looking to get their early Permit purchase out of the way: we will be holding an Open House and Volunteer Appreciation Bar-B-Q on Sunday, Oct. 29th between 10 am and 3 pm at the clubhouse. We are even hoping to get a celebrity guest out for one of our winter events so stay tuned.

Grooming Report
Thanks to a lot of help from Executive members plus a lot of volunteers we have had two successful days of servicing the Groomers.
We have a couple of things to do to the drags on the groomers and we should be ready for the snow to start falling, lets hope we get lots of it this year.
We have had some damage to Land Owners crops from poor snow conditions last year I hope this don't make it harder to get permission for this year to use there land.
I have contacted the groomer operators and they are all ready to go for this season.
The equipment and the operators are ready so all we have to add is lots of SNOW.
We would like to do a lot more grooming this year but Mother Nature will have to co-operate.
I would like to thank Brian Jewell, Kelly Goreski, and all the other members who took the time to help do the service on the machines!!!

Trail Signing Report
Hi everyone:
As you may have noticed almost all of the province of Ontario has gone to the same signage. This makes it easier when you travel from one clubs trails to another:
All of the signage is the same and easy to follow!!!
This year I will get some new destination signs up to inform you on the distances to different places. Since I have to distance them out on my snowmobile and get them printed, look for them as soon as I can get this done.
We have installed 2 new bridges on the Island for your traveling convenience. You probably won't see them as they will be buried under 2 feet of snow this year, (I hope). Also, on the Island we started to clear some of the trails for this year. The first place had 17 trees down in 100 feet. I hope that this is not a glimpse of what is to come for the rest of the Island. It won't matter because by the time the snow comes we will have it all cleared and ready for you permit buying riders. On that note, if you have any friends or see any riders without permits this year tell them that we will be out on the Island patrolling and looking for the people that don't pay their way. See you this winter.

Landowner Report
Well, its that time of year again. Time to check over the sleds, start them up (of course this gets the blood flowing through the veins), oh and make courtesy phone calls to all of our Landowners who make our trail system what it is. AMAZING!!!
Every year, I think to myself
I wonder how many complaints therell be from those few riders who go off the trail, damage a crop or two and cause the landowner to seriously question whether we should continue with our trail on the property. We have about 55 Landowners whose property we are very fortunate to use for our trail system and its inevitable that each year there will be some type of damage done. If only all riders put forth 100% effort to respect the land and stay on the trail the damage would be minimal. Please do your part and help to preserve the trail system many people have worked so hard to develop. The landowners allow snowmobilers the use of their property without compensation year to year.
If you are asking yourself
What could I possibly do to help???
Please stay on the trail.
Stakes are in place for a reason; leave the stakes intact.
Please do not touch gates and fences.
Have respect for the equipment and property.
Enjoy the farm animals and pets; avoid getting near them.
Snowmobile use only.
Use only in the winter.
Use only when trail is open.
Have Respect for the landowner.
Remember: Other people may have the landowners permission to be on the property too.
Thank you,
Chad Z

This Seasons Riding Events
Keep an eye on our website for dates
Next planned riding event will be our first annual Snowmobile Cross Country Rally Race. This will be a 2 sled per team event, with 4 to 5 check points, winners being determined by best time between check points and total route time. These times will be based on posted speed limits throughout the route.
Under time between check points = over speed time penalties.
Over time between check points = underspeed time penalties.
Hmmmm lake leg of the rally could be intresting.
Also back by popular demand the PPSC Saturday Fun Runs. Whether a leisurely group ride to Fenelon Falls for brunch, or a group ride to a neighboring club house for lunch, it's a great chance to get out for a ride and meet other sledders. Fun Run riders will now be able to collectively decide and plan where to go, in advance, with the addition of our new interactive riders discussion board, accessible by link (The PPSC Forum) on our website www.portperrysnowmobileclub .com
Hope to see you riding!!
